The Death Road

Biking - Coroico

Subtropical Forest of Coroico – The Death Road

Three hours from the city of La Paz, crossing the majestic Andes mountain range and reaching the highest point at 4,700 meters, we proceed to travel to get to Coroico at 1,750 meters above the sea level. During the tour you can see the transformation of the landscape that goes from the aridity of the picks of the Andes mountain range to the lush sub-tropical jungle, midpoint before reaching the Amazonian rainforest.

This is the famous "Death Road", which can also be dropped by bike to accelerate the heartbeat of visitor, while discovering its exuberant nature.

In the Summit begins the descent along a winding asphalt road, on the way we stop at different places to take pictures of the unique scenery of the area. We continue our descent to enter the jungle itself and the most challenging part of the course. A narrow dirt road surrounded by explosive nature and impressive water falls. Later we head towards Coroico to enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, we visit the coca plantations and, if it´s the right season, we´ll also see coffee and citrus plantations.

Coroico is also distinguished by being one of the few towns that have an Afro-Bolivian population that happily dance to the beats of their drums.

It is equally possible to visit the beautiful natural waterfalls to cool off by the river a half hour from Coroico.
